Registered Master Builders Apprentice of the Year, in association with Carters, aims to recognise excellence among carpentry apprentices, celebrate industry training and recognise the employers that contribute to it. It’s a competition that tests several aspects of a well-rounded apprentice, not just their skills on the tools.
Ten regional Registered Master Builders Apprentice of the Year award ceremonies have been held around the country during August and September. BCITO applauds the standards of workmanship and industry knowledge shown by all regional finalists:
Northern - Toby Chapman-Smith, Court Construction
Auckland - Kadin Murray, Licensed Renovations
Waikato - Ryan Tesselaar, Foster Construction
Bay of Plenty Central Plateau - Ethan Inglis, Skilled Building Solutions
Hawke’s Bay East Coast - Jake Pardoe, M & M Tibbles Construction
Central North Island - Callum Bryson, McMillan & Lockwood PN Limited
Wellington Wairarapa - Andrew Press, Hutt City Builders
Upper South Island - Wade Puklowski, Coman Construction
Central South Island - Jono Blakely, Andrew James Builders Limited
Southern - Ben Bringans, Banks Building Services Limited
The competition will culminate in a national final and awards ceremony being held in Auckland at The Cloud on Thursday and Friday 3 - 4 November 2016.
We’re proud to support this event which showcases the high calibre of apprentices at a time when the industry needs them most. Our Chief Executive, Warwick Quinn says, “we are excited to see all the ambitious finalists continue into the national competition and wish all competitors the best of luck as they make their mark in the building and construction industry.”
At the national final, regional winners will be interviewed by a panel of three judges and will be put through their paces with a practical skills competition.
The National Winner of RMB Carters’ Apprentice of the Year will receive an amazing array of prizes including:
- The use of a brand new Ford Ranger ute for one year, proudly provided by Carters
- Carters Business Tools Grant – a $5,000 grant towards career development, e.g. courses, laptop, or travel to industry conferences or expos.
- High quality trade products and tools from a range of Carters' top suppliers as well as from APL.
- An Apple iPad worth $1000 and access to the full set of regulatory compliance documents from MBIE
The winner’s employer will receive a Carters’ employer award of an Apple iPad.
Second and third placegetters will win an Apple iPad loaded with industry documents and high quality trade products and tools from one or more of the following: Stanley, Irwin, Snell Packaging and Safety and Hitachi.
BCITO congratulates all regional winners and we look forward to celebrating the achievements of the National Winner.
