Mana Whakatipu, Mana Tangata is more than just an adventure - it's a commitment, a shift, and a powerful stepping stone toward shaping the next generation of Māori leaders in the building and construction industry.
This groundbreaking initiative is designed to empower emerging leaders and build resilience, confidence, and cultural connection through immersive experiences in Te Ao Māori while challenging participants to push the boundaries of their potential.
The 2025 programme will be bigger and better than previous years with an extra day added and more activities. Training Advisors are encouraged to start identifying Tāne and Wāhine Apprentices with Rangatira potential!
Our Journey
The inaugural Rangatira Development Programme brought together sixteen individuals—programme leaders from Whenua Iti Outdoors, BCITO staff, and ten Tāne from across the motu—for an incredible adventure of personal growth and leadership in the stunning Abel Tasman National Park.
What began with nervous anticipation quickly transformed into strong bonds through Mihi Whakatau and Whakawhanaungatanga, revealing shared values and aspirations among participants.
Transformative Experiences
Participants engage in a variety of challenging and culturally significant activities designed to foster leadership, resilience, and cultural connection:
Leap of Faith
Testing courage, trust, and teamwork through exhilarating elevated obstacles.
Waka Paddling
A 14-kilometer journey from Kaiteriteri to Rākauroa, stopping at places of deep cultural significance to hear pūrākau (stories).
Mau Rākau Training
Learning and practicing the ancient art of Māori weaponry under expert guidance.
Proven Impact
The impact of the Rangatira Development Programme extends far beyond the days spent in Abel Tasman National Park. Employers and Training Advisors have shared outstanding feedback about participants who returned from the experience transformed:
