Richard believes creating a positive company culture is the key to a motivating work environment and this helps to retain staff. He says the key ingredients for a great company culture are: having a diversity of jobs, a mix of people to learn from, and showing staff they’re valued. Although Richard is now in a corporate role at Viridian, the team at the Nelson factory he most recently managed still think of him fondly as the greatest boss they ever had.
Richard knows that promoting careers in the industry at Viridian Glass premises has had some fairly quick and positive spin-offs. Customers visiting a showroom to purchase glass are drawn to the stories and pictures on the walls and often pass on a key message to friends and family who may be looking for work.
