Graduation - Nelson 2025
Nelson celebrated the achievements of 22 newly qualified tradespeople at a special graduation ceremony held on April 30th, 2025.
The event, which took place at a local venue, was attended by approximately 30 guests including prominent community leaders. Mayor Nick Smith was among the distinguished speakers who addressed the graduates and attendees during the evening.
Member of Parliament Rachel Boyack participated in the ceremony by presenting certificates to the graduates, acknowledging their hard work and dedication. Philip Thompson from Laminex served as the Master of Ceremonies for the event.
Representatives from REAP, an organization that assists in delivering evening drop-in sessions for apprentices in the region, were also in attendance to show their support.
The graduating class represented a diverse range of trades, including:
- Carpentry
- Painting and Decorating
- Joinery
- Concrete
- Brick and Block Laying
- Glass and Glazing
This graduation marks an important milestone for these skilled professionals as they transition from apprentices to fully qualified tradespeople, ready to contribute to Nelson's construction and building maintenance sectors.
The ceremony highlighted the importance of trades education and the vital role that qualified tradespeople play in the community's infrastructure and development.
