Mainland Football and BCITO Partnership Builds Futures

From Goals to Careers

7 minute read

Mainland Football and BCITO (Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation) are proud to announce a new partnership designed to help football players across the region pursue rewarding careers in the trades while continuing to thrive on the field.

This collaboration recognises the challenge athletes face in balancing sporting commitments with career development. Through the partnership, Mainland Football players will gain access to clear apprenticeship pathways across building and construction, supported by BCITO’s nationwide expertise and strong employer networks.

From aspiring youth players to seasoned competitors, footballers of all levels will be able to pursue apprenticeships that provide long-term stability, flexibility, and valuable life skills. With BCITO’s wrap-around support, players can complete their qualifications without compromising their football journey.

Martin Field-Dodgson, CEO of Mainland Football said that “we’re committed to developing people as well as players. This partnership with BCITO gives our football community clear pathways into meaningful careers, while still supporting their ambitions on the field. It’s about helping our players build strong futures, both in the game and in life.”

BCITO’s National Business Development Advisor (Sports), Jeremy Benton, said the partnership highlights a shared commitment to supporting young people.

“We want players to see a trade career as something just as exciting and rewarding as the game itself. By working alongside Mainland Football, we can show players, families, and communities that it’s possible to succeed in both football and a trade career.”

Impact on Clubs and Communities

The benefits of this partnership go beyond individual players. By connecting members with career opportunities, football clubs can improve retention, attract new players, and demonstrate a genuine commitment to life beyond the game. This initiative strengthens the role of clubs as community hubs that support their players both on and off the pitch.

Next Steps

Over the coming months, BCITO and Mainland Football will provide opportunities for players, parents, and coaches to learn more about apprenticeships and how to connect sporting talent with meaningful work.
