myBCITO Tools Grant

One of the biggest costs for students looking to get into an apprenticeship is the purchase of tools. 

To help offset these costs we have created a Tools Grants for new apprentices who have engaged with us through myBCITO, BCATS or Gateway.

Tools Grant

How many grants are available?

Thirty (30) $1,000 tools grants are available nationwide in 2019. You can only receive a myBCITO Tools Grant once.

How much are the grants worth?

Each grant is for $1,000 incl GST (if applicable).

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for this grant you must fall into one of the following categories:

  • Be a current apprentice and have signed into an apprenticeship after 1 September 2018 OR;
  • Be looking to sign-up to an apprenticeship with BCITO within 6 months of your application.

You must also have joined the myBCITO community before commencing your apprenticeship (BCITO will have a record of this); OR have undertaken a BCITO BCATS / Gateway programme in 2018 or 2019.

What can the grants be used for?

You can use this grant to put towards the purchase of tools and equipment needed for your trade apprenticeship.

How do you apply?

Applications can be made by completing and submitting the myBCITO Tools Grant Application Form, along with a portfolio of information. 

Your portfolio should include:

  • Evidence of your current situation and how you are eligible for the scholarship
  • How the scholarship will help you reach your career goals
  • What tools you will use the money for, and any supporting evidence of the cost

When should applications be made?

Applications open 1 September 2019 and must be received on or before 28 September 2019.

How will applications be considered?

All applications will be considered by a team from BCITO. They may request additional information from the applicant or from their Training Advisor or Business Development Advisor. Successful applicants will demonstrate how well the intended use of the funds, meets the purpose of the grant/scholarship.

All decisions made will be final.

How and when will applicants be notified?

All applicants will be notified by mail or phone within one month of the managers meeting, held immediately after applications close. 

Those awarded grants will her their name published in BC News and must also be available for media interview if required.

How are grants claimed once awarded?

If you are already an apprentice:

You don't need to do anything further. Payment will be made direct to your specified bank account. 

If you are not yet an apprentice:

You must sign-up into an apprenticeship within six months of being awarded the grant. 

Once your sign-up is complete you will need to email: [email protected] to notify them that you have signed into a BCITO apprenticeship and claim your grant money. Payment will then be made direct to your specified bank account. 

Grant recipients must keep receipts for at least 12 months and present them to BCITO staff on request.
