Arranging training involves supporting employers and learners to achieve industry standards and qualifications, through arranging an appropriate mix of learning and assessment that ensures learners can complete credentials and qualifications through their workplace. This includes all the customer-facing physical visits and virtual interactions with BCITO while you are training an apprentice, from signing a training agreement through to your apprentice's graduation.
Capstone assessment draws together a learner’s knowledge, skills and attributes into a final summative assessment. They can take a number of forms such as projects observed, on-job performance or a performance assessment under examination conditions.
Moderation is the quality assurance process used to ensure that assessment process and decisions are valid. When BCITO, training providers or schools assess students against unit standards, we want to ensure that the decisions are fair and reasonable. Moderation involves two-way communication.
A private training establishment (PTE) provides tertiary education or vocational training. It is separate to institutions (i.e. polytechnic, university, wānanga).
Regional Skills Leadership Groups were formed by the Government in June 2020 to identify and support better ways of meeting future skills and workforce needs in our regions and cities. They are part of a joined-up approach to labour market planning which will see our workforce, education and immigration systems working together to better meet the differing skills needs across the country. Our education, welfare and immigration agencies will act on the groups’ advice to make sure the right skills are developed and available.
Functioning independently, the groups are regionally based and regionally led, and supported by a team of data analysts, advisors and workforce specialists at the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment.
Members are regional industry leaders, economic development agencies, and iwi, worker and government representatives, who will contribute their knowledge and local expertise.
Standard-setting is the development of unit standards and nationally recognised qualifications for specific industries and professions that are based on the needs of those industries and sectors.
